What is Contemplative Psychotherapy?
Contemplative psychotherapy draws on Eastern wisdom traditions and Buddhist psychology, but is secular in its approach. It emphasizes reducing shame, understanding and working with your mind, and compassionately navigating any defense mechanisms or behaviors that once protected you but may now feel out of control.
Unlike other approaches that see people as “broken,” this therapy helps you understand yourself and your patterns without pathologizing them. With awareness, change becomes more possible – not by “fixing” you, but by creating a space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors without judgement.
This approach pairs naturally with EMDR, which can directly access core wounds and protective parts. These parts have wisdom to share that can actually help us move towards healing.
“The happiness of your life depends upon the quality of your thoughts.”
— Marcus Aurelius, Meditations
Working Together
Therapy is an investment, and its value is shaped not just by time spent, but by the depth of the work and the quality of the relationship. At its core, meaningful therapy is a space where clients feel safe. It is a thoughtful, collaborative process that unfolds within a carefully held therapeutic relationship.
Together, we can develop concrete skills in awareness, communication, and self-regulation that you can apply immediately in your daily life and relationships. Rather than focusing solely on symptom reduction, I aim to understand the fuller context of your experience – supporting insight, integration, and lasting change. This kind of work asks for both skill and attunement, and I bring years of dedicated training and ongoing study to support that process.
I strive to offer a space that is steady, respectful, and responsive to your individual needs. Together, we create a relationship where it becomes possible to explore what is difficult, make meaning of your experiences, and move toward a greater sense of alignment, agency, and well-being.
Individual Therapy Rates
I am currently licensed in Colorado (office is in Boulder) and can only work with residents of Colorado for therapy appointments. Coaching is available worldwide.
- Regular rate for 50m sessions: $170/hour
- Extended session rate: $270/80 minutes
Sliding scale from $100–300 available dependent upon income level and individual need.
For EMDR intensive rates, please visit the EMDR page.
Sessions are available year-round online. In-person availability in Boulder office is limited and may be seasonal or hybrid (maintaining flexibility between in-person and virtual).
A Note About Insurance
Through my private practice, I do not work directly with insurance providers, accept insurance, or file claims for insurance reimbursement (this includes Medicare/Medicaid).
Insurance billing requires a formal mental health diagnosis and allows insurers access to parts of your clinical record, including session notes, which can compromise your sense of privacy. I prioritize creating a space where clients feel fully safe and our work is truly confidential, especially when working with sensitive topics related to addiction, identity, or sexuality.
Additionally, many of the concerns I work with do not fit neatly into insurance-defined diagnostic categories, and the process of assigning a diagnosis for reimbursement purposes can be reductive. Challenges with sexuality, intimacy and desire is most often not a matter of “pathology”. Working outside of insurance also allows me to focus my time and energy on the therapeutic work itself, rather than the numerous administrative requirements and proverbial hoops that insurance requires us both to jump through.
That said, I am happy to provide a Superbill for clients who wish to seek reimbursement through their out-of-network benefits or use HSA/FSA funds, depending on their coverage.
In order to align with my values that therapy be accessible, in addition to sliding scale, I may have a limited number of (virtual) community mental-health spots available through my work with Calm Counseling; this is for clients who are uninsured or on Medicare and are generally working with addiction-specific issues.
